There’s a lot of advice out there on ensuring the best optimisation for conversion on your eCommerce site.
Here are 10 tips we think are worth ticking off.
1. Let your customers refine their search
Help save your customer’s time and effort by letting them refine their search from the beginning. Avoid user discomfort when they finally find the product they are after, but you don’t carry it in their size.
2. If out or low in stock make it clear
For SEO purposes it is better to keep the product on the site instead of removing it and having to add it back on again. If a product is out of stock make it crystal clear so you don’t upset your customers shopping experience by promoting products that are no longer available.
3. Use good quality images
eCommerce is all about buying with your eyes. Having an array of good quality photos on your site is a guaranteed way to attract more business. Plan a product page with layout in mind and consider how the products will be shown (slide show, or thumbnails). Avoid using blurry or pixelated images; it will only reduce the quality of your site.
4. Make shopping cart visible
Online shoppers do not want to be sent to the basket page every time they add an item. Keeping the basket visible on every page is a better solution.
5. Show personality
A clean, simple and easy to navigate website is ideal for user experience, but don’t forget to show some personality. You want your site to be remembered, add some unique tweaks to the style of your site that consumers will appreciate.
6. Incorporate Social Media
Social media plays a big part in SEO and back links. When adding social media links on your site they need to be placed somewhere that does not dominate the page. Think about adding a pinterest link along side your product page allowing customers to share a product and reach a wider audience.
7. Add newsletter sign up
Having a newsletter sign up form is standard on any ecommerce store, try to make yours more appealing than others by using great creative and offering a great sign up deal.
8. Keep product pages clean
It is worthwhile visual merchandising your website. Your products need to be displayed in their own space, complete with a tidy description and price , with minimal distraction away from the products. It is a good idea to add ‘you may also like’ or ‘also viewed’ tabs to help keep your customer shopping.
9. Avoid check out distractions
You want your customer to find it very easy to complete their order. When designing, remove items like sidebar navigation and adverts. It is not worth trying to promote more products and deals on this page.
10. Keep ‘Add to cart’ visible
The clearer, bolder and more attractive the add to cart button is, the higher the chance it will be used!
